Legacy Of Love

Rachel Blair Carey

Though locations of these memories change throughout the years,
The places matter little; everything but the people could disappear.
When a woman builds a legacy, and she involves you too,
You’ll never feel more accepted and loved in anything you do.

Sharing Magnum Bars in Europe, I fondly remember,
And farm house Christmas plays in snowy December.
Learning about traveling from an adept globe-trotter
On Acapulco beaches buying jewelry near the salt water.

Is anything more relaxing than playing cards at the lake?
Requesting the partner of my very own name sake.
Everyone always wanting Grandma on their team
Because everyone knows: in cards, Grandma reigns supreme.

Every year, looking forward to Spring Breaks in Bradenton,
Grandma always looking out for my sensitive sun-skin.
Night time trips to the hot tub, and talking about life,
Grandma, so gentle and encouraging if I ever felt strife.

Grandma always keeping Grandpa in line when he teased,
But silly, childish reactions only made Grandpa more pleased.
On Sunday mornings, getting ready for church, everyone dressed,
Grandpa whistling at Grandma, with her beauty always impressed.

The legacy that you’ve built for us, this amazing family,
Rooted in Faith and Love for God, will serve forever happily.
Thank you for all you’ve taught to me, I will always take to heart,
What I’ve learned from you will help me make my own legacy’s start.
